Welcome District
Governor Blair Hartman:
The BH-BL Rotary Club is pleased
to welcome our new District Governor.
Without a doubt, Blair Harman exemplifies by action and deed the core
values of Rotary. Blair joined the Cobleskill
Club in 1985. Since then he has been
club president, has served as the club Youth Exchange chairperson for 16 years,
and the club representative to a Boy Scout Troop for 15 years. His club selected him twice for Rotarian of
the Year. Blair is a Paul Harris
Fellow.
At theDistrict
level, Blair has held numerous leadership positions, many in the area of youth enrichment and international exchange. He has attended five International
Conferences. Blair is a retired educator, is very active in community
educational and service activities and has a wide range of interest. Blair,
this year our club celebrates its 53rd year of serving our community and the
wider world. We are proud of our
past. However, we recognize that
Rotary's calling and human needs look to be as challenging, if not more so, in
the future and are working to do our part in Rotary's selfless mission of
"Service Above Self."
We
hope you enjoy your evening with us and we look forward to working with you
this coming year.
Club Dialogue on
Plans for 2004-05:
At last Tuesday’s meeting, club officers, committee chairs, and members
involved in special projects provided an overview of planning to date. Time did not permit complete discussion of
any of the nine presentations, but more complete discussion can take place at
subsequent meetings. President Steve
assured the membership that the club leadership would not want to do anything
that would be counter to the membership’s desires. If anything was not adequately covered at
this July 13 meeting, or there is an unresolved issue, it should be discussed
again and resolved. Presenters were as
follows:

Objectives: Steve
Overview
of the Coming Year and Programs: Linda
and Rey
Budget Process: Ken
and Val
Rotateller Dick

Rotary Dues Increased:
At its July 6 meeting the BH-BL Rotary membership voted to
raise its semi-annual member dues by $10 to $60 each January and July.
It is the first dues increase in many years. The change was necessitated by an increase in
Rotary International dues and a need to develop additional income to fully fund
all regular club expenses.
In mid-June, 529 delegates from
70 countries met in Chicago to debate and vote on more than 400 legislative
proposals aimed at keeping Rotary’s
31,000 clubs worldwide and their service projects relevant to their communities
as the organization enters its second century of service.
Of
the proposals approved during the triennial meeting, the one that will have
perhaps the greatest effect on Rotary clubs is the RI Board of
Directors’ request to increase per capita dues by US$4 per year over a period
of three years. Approved during the session, this is the first increase in RI
dues since 1995. “The increase in dues
will be tough for clubs in developing countries like mine, but I think
Rotarians will manage”, says David M. Villanueva of District 3850, the
