-
A very nice thank you card from Jen Sewell was passed around. She deeply appreciates the many expressions
of sympathy and support offered by members.
-
Bill McClary reported on visits he had with Jody and
Dick O’Rourke. Jody is in good spirits
and has a very nice room with a river view.
Most importantly, she is making progress. Dick is recovering quickly
from his elective surgery.
-
Mark G. showed us a map of the roads he traveled
during his over 6,000 accumulative mile bike ride for pure water. He has made a significant contribution to the
health and well being of more people than we can probably imagine. Mark thanked all those that contributed and
noted some members even signed on late to contribute dollars, once they
realized what he was doing.
-
President Linda will soon be heading off to
-
In Ron’s absence, Linda reported that the club will soon
be considering what it wants to do with a substantial amount of yet
undesignated funds. Ron is soliciting ideas for a good humanitarian project. The challenge, as always, is to select a
project or projects that potentially do the most good.

George Bailey delivered a beautiful grace, again.
Generator Safety – Ken Crotty
We were very fortunate to
hear a very important and informative Power Point presentation by our own KC on
the potential dangers of improper generator installation and operation, and
conversely, the proper equipment, installation techniques and operator measures
to use to ensure that fool proof safety is maintained. Ken made it very clear that incorrect
installation or use can lead to destructive fires or death due to fire,
electric shock or Carbon Monoxide (CO) inhalation. Hundreds of people have died as a result of
unknowingly breathing this colorless and odorless CO gas and the numbers are
increasing each year. Ken noted a lot of
problems also occur because operators are untrained, forgetful or
careless. Safety points he made were:
-
don’t connect your generator directly to home wiring- overload or
execution can result
-
don’t overload the generator
-
never use a generator indoors or in an attached garage
-
avoid shock hazards from exposure to rain or snow
-
use proper power cords and wiring
-
ground generator for shock protection
-
store fuel outdoors, secured from unauthorized access
-
do not refuel a generator while it is running
-
turn off all equipment before shutting down the generator
-
avoid burns
-
keep children away from operating/exposure to generators
-
use Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitors
Ken also showed us proper
equipment options for power generation, transfer and wiring. New labeling is also required to warn of deadly
CO inhalation due to improper positioning and ventilation of generators.
Ken will likely put the slides of this presentation on our website, www.bhblrotary.org and is willing to answer
further questions. Thanks Ken for a very
well organized, timely and important
presentation!
