Meeting of July 19, 2005

The meeting was held at the lovely home of Rey and Gini Whetten, overlooking Ballston Lake.  Members and spouses enjoyed a hearty chicken and beef dinner catered by JR’s BBC.  Bob Youmans led the singing of You Are My Sunshine.  Linda LeTendre collected Happy Dollars.

Rey Whetten conducted the business meeting.

The draft Budget for the new year was handed out and presented by Ken Crotty.

·          It is similar to last year with small changes in expenditures.

·          It was noted that the Club has been giving to the same group of charities for a number of years, with the suggestion that we may wish to change the pattern of giving – for example funding projects carried out by the club.

·          The budget may be changed by a vote of the membership at any meeting during the year should changes be desired.

·          A motion was made and seconded that the budget be accepted as presented.

·          During discussion it was pointed out that as a non-charity the Club is free to donate to any organization it deems appropriate – not just 501C3 charities.

·          The previous question was moved, and the budget was accepted by unanimous vote.

Rey thanked the Board of Directors for coming to his house for meetings on two consecutive Saturday mornings.

Membership Planning – Ron Serapilio

Ron Serapilio presented his vision and plan for increasing the Club’s membership over the next year.  Ron is excited and proud to be not only a Rotarian but also an active member of the BH-BL Club.  As described by Gini Whetten, it is a small club with a big heart.  Although some clubs are experiencing declining enrollment, our membership is up and continuing up.  Inspired by Bill McClary’s observation whether this club will live or die will be our choice to make, Ron’s goal is to add 4 or 5 new members over the next year while holding on to the present 45 members.  His plan is in three stages:

1.       Retain our entire present membership.  Reach out to those who have been away too long.  They are missed.  We need them.

2.       Do our very best to re-involve as many members as we can.  We will ask all committees to brainstorm as to how to become more active.  We will break down major tasks into minor tasks to involve more members in smaller but still significant ways.

3.       Increase our enrollment by 10%.  There are 9000 people BH-BL and 4000 in Charlton.  Out of 13,000 are there not 4 or 5 quality people with service above self, written on their hearts?

We need to carry on in service to others, increasing our public image, and telling everyone – or perhaps just someone about Rotary.  Gini Whetten is here to tell about her activities to help that goal.

New Professional Materials – Gini Whetten

Gini, a professional graphic artist, has prepared a suite of materials to help project a professional image to our public.

She and Ron are pictured holding a storyboard displaying new stationary, letterhead, note cards, certificate of appreciation, a folder with printed cover for the membership packet and informative brochures.  In addition Gini has prepared business cards for each member bearing the Rotary logo and web-site address, as well as the member’s address and e-mail information.  It is intended that these cards be used to help link prospective members to a sponsoring member and through them, to the club. These new materials present the new Club motto:

Text Box: Serve with us – the world is waiting.
