Fellowship at the Old Homestead
Last  week’s Old Homestead meeting provided a relaxed evening of
genuine Rotary fellowship with 19 members present, a great turn out  given that
an area Interclub meeting was scheduled for the same night. The meeting, led by
Val Mosier, was highlighted by his keyboard presentation and group sing-along.
Val led us through a series of novelty songs, moldy oldies, and on occasion,
helped us to reminisce by adding some special 'catchy' verses of his own.

Some of his tunes were: Chicory Chick Tra La Tra La,               Lay that Pistol
Down Babe, and I'm a Little Petunia in an Onion Patch.  This latter tune prompted
a special announcement by Laura Linder, who is once again selling Vidalia Sweet
Onions for Rotary.  This year she has made arrangements for our club to derive a
small part of the financial benefit. If any member would like to order or sell onions,
they should contact Laura immediately. They are just 10 lbs for $10, or 5 lbs for $ 5.
Laura also announced a Special Celebration of the Hubble Space Telescope's  15th Anniversary at the Schenectady Museum on this coming Saturday, April 30.
Special events are planned from 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

As Val continued the music, he led us through The Hop Scotch Polka,
Green Door, Jambalaya, Doodli' Doo, Lilly Lilly Low, Johnson Rag, and a great
Polka Medley that prompted an enthusiastic crowd response.  It was a fun night for
all.

InterClub Dinner a Big Success

Our club hosted the annual InterClub Dinner Meeting, April 26, 2005, at the Woodlin Club.  It was a booming success!  A  total of 80 special people, all of whom

have committed their talents and resources to help others, attended.  Ten members

of the BHBL Rotary represented our club.  Clubs attending were Glenville Rotary,

Scotia Kiwanis, S/G Lions, Scotia Rotary, our club and for the first time, thanks to

Mitch’s idea, the Oriental Shriners. The objectives of the evening were:

•  First and foremost for everyone to have a great time,

•  Get to know folks from other clubs,

•  Get a chance to understand what other clubs do,

•  Have a good brainstorming session, and

•  Take away from the meeting some good points of contact for any

 potential future coordinated efforts.

All objectives were achieved!  Linda devised a seating arrangement to

ensure the members of different clubs were spread evenly throughout the room.

Folks from different clubs got to know each other and share experiences and ideas.

After an enjoyable dinner, club Presidents and the Shriner’s Potentate, gave very

brief descriptions of their clubs, and recent projects completed.  Linda and Mark then led a very worthwhile brainstorming session to generate ideas on how all the service clubs could help each other.  The results of the session were sent to contacts in each club.  Our club can be proud we hosted such an event.          Cheers,

                                                                                                Steve

Rotateller Help Wanted

Here’s your chance to realize a life-long dream to be an editor or reporter.

The Rotateller needs to increase staff size to avoid gaps in publication caused by occasional absences.  With a few more staff members, assignments could be as few as once a month, covering speakers’ remarks, news briefs, etc.  We need you!  If you are interested, please contact Gini, Dick, or Steve.
